back pocket press is a zine distro and community printing press established in ypsilanti, michigan in 2013. we are passionate about the transformative power of self-published, printed media and the liberatory history of zines. coming from a queer, anarchist, feminist background, we aim to amplify access to certain texts (and occasionally other medias) through small-batch, independent, radical printing and distribution.
following in the footsteps of the feminist rupture of the line between the personal and the political, we curate our bilingual collection to tell powerful, personal stories that explore the intersectional complexities of our world and imagine radical alternatives. by sharing knowledge, experiences, and self-care strategies, we hope to fight alienation, build networks of mutual aid, and uplift marginalized voices.
firmly committed to anti-capitalism, we distribute everything on a sliding scale, donation based model and provide transparency about our finances (click here for more info). all of our income goes back into the distro and the community: it covers our operating costs, reimburses artists and writers for their materials, and funds our community resource work (learn more about that here).
we are a self-organized, non-hierarchical collective and make decisions based on consensus. to get involved in the work of our collective, visit this page. if you think your zine would be a good fit for our distro, take a look at our submissions process. to place an order, click here.
